Making the Best of Your Credit Score

Having bad credit, or no credit, carries effects with it that may not become a concern until some time later, but eventually your poor credit will cause damage that will seem irreparable. Your poor credit will effect getting qualified for car loans, mortgages, or even getting an apartment. It is essential if you want to make financial changes in your life, that your credit is stable and secure. Repairing your credit does take time. Generally it takes at least six months after a poor credit score before most banks will qualify you for an individual loan.

One way to start repairing your credit is to get a credit card that offers no annual fees and low interest rates. Once you apply for a credit card, your credit will be checked automatically, which is one way of getting your credit reports for free. If you have decent credit you could get a secured credit card, which is a great way to lower monthly payments. People with poor credit, however, can sometimes get a secured card as well if they are seeking to repair their credit. Since anytime you own a card there is always a chance it could fall into the wrong hands, getting a card with 100% fraud protection is often a good move to make. Once you attain a credit card it can be a great way to start repairing your credit, but make sure that you make all your monthly payments on time. The overall goal of owning a credit card to repair debts is to have good reports added to your credit score.

If you have to apply for an insecure credit card be careful with your selection. It is smart to check the company out at the Better Business Bureau before committing to any agreement or contract. Sometimes these types of cards can have a steep upfront fee. If this is the case, there is a good chance the company is fraudulent. If you’re trying to repair your credit, the last thing you want to do is get deeper into debt.

Credit Reports
A credit report is a document that records your financial history. Good and bad financial transactions go on this report. If a creditor pulls your report and finds that you have poor credit, they will probably not approve you for a loan. If you have an excellent credit rating, there isn’t much that you can’t get approved for. Once you apply for a loan you can get your credit reports for free. Once you have access to your reports, check them carefully to find out where your problems are occurring. This is also a good time to check for any fraudulent charges to your accounts. If fraudulent charges are found, dispute the charges immediately to the credit bureau. If you notice bills that have slipped past you, take care of them immediately, or as soon as possible. Your credit history can be tainted in a few, short moments, but sometimes it takes years to repair it. A poor credit score is not something you want to ignore since you will probably always need some kind of financial assistance in the future. It is not easy to get approved for loans with a bad credit score—almost everyone will turn you down. Sometimes you might need outside help to get your finances in order, but putting your debt off will only make things worse.
