Building Credit Ideas - On the Road to Building Credit

If you are tired of creditors and collection agencies harassing you, then it is time to start repairing your credit. If you don’t have any credit, and having a hard time getting approved for loans, it is a sign you need to start building your credit. Whether you already have bad credit, or whether you don’t have credit yet, the most important thing is to be able to distinguish between wants and needs. Giving into your wants will get you into debt quicker than you can imagine. No matter where you are in building your credit, be sure that you have your priorities in order.

Repairing Bad Credit
If you have bad credit, your options are unlimited. Before you walk into a credit counseling or credit consolidation company, try to fix your credit by yourself. The public library has all the information you need to start repairing your credit, and it’s free! You can make copies of forms that need to be sent to creditors from books, or you can get systematic guides that show you step by step how to write letters to your creditors. Letters are usually the best way to contact your creditors. A lot of creditors don’t like being bothered with your situation. Letters also give you documented proof if you need it in a courtroom or lawsuit. Any documents dealing with your creditors should be kept and copies should be made. Documented proof will hold up in court. If you notice unapproved charges on your credit make sure you contact either your creditor or credit bureau immediately. Your credit should not be affected by a charge you didn’t approve or make. You do have rights if you purchase an item or use a service that is defective. If the company refuses to compensate you, you have the right to dispute the payment and not pay it. Of course, be sure to contact your card provider and let them know what had transpired. Ironically, using your credit card to pay off debts is a good way to repair your credit even though is should only be a last resort.

Building Credit from Scratch
If you are one of those people who pay all your bills in cash, you may want to reconsider. Sometimes it can be extremely difficult to purchase something in today’s world without at least one major credit card. Unfortunately, not having credit can be as bad as having poor credit. Most creditors are leery of people who have no credit history, and since most people cannot buy things such as a home outright with cash, if you ever want to buy a home, you will need established credit. When a person doesn’t have a credit history, creditors don’t know if they can trust that person to make a payment on time and so forth. There are many reasons that lenders will refuse you a loan if you do not have a credit history, but fortunately, you’re in place where building credit history is not difficult. If you get a credit card, and keep up on monthly payments, you will find your credit building fairly quickly.
